30 Songs: 30 Days - DAY TWENTY FOUR

A popular challenge on blogs and facebook recently has been "30 Songs in 30 Days" - to post 30 songs (fitting certain categories ), one song per day, for 30 days.

DAY TWENTY FOUR: A song that you want to have played at your funeral  "A Thousand Winds" - Hayley Westenra

I don't want one of the overdone funeral standbys like "Amazing Grace" or "I Can Only Imagine." I want something unique and beautiful, and this song is utterly perfect. And instead of the Hallmark sentiments, I would prefer this - “What is it to die, but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?” (Kahlil Gibran)

Don’t stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain

I am a thousand winds
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glint on snow
I am a thousand winds that blow

Don’t stand at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die
I am the swift rush of birds in flight
Soft stars that shine at night

I am a thousand winds
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glint on snow
I am a thousand winds that blow

Don’t stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain

I am a thousand winds
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glint on snow
I am a thousand winds that blow

I am the diamond glint on snow
I am a thousand winds that blow
